Miami Senior High School was built in 1928 in the Mediterranean Revival architectural style. As part of the school building’s renovation, Edwards & Partners evaluated the structural components of the existing historic buildings for compliance with current building codes. E&P designed the following elements of the structural restoration:

  • Retrofitting existing window and door openings with new steel bracing for compliance with current building codes
  • Replacement of the existing flooring system on the first floor (reinforced concrete slab over concrete joists) with a new flooring system of reinforced concrete over concrete beams
  • Steel support structures for new mechanical equipment
  • New mechanical room for gymnasium (concrete masonry walls with steel joist roofing system).
